Class Description

Each 45-minute yoga class includes warm-ups, breathing, postures, and a final relaxation. You will learn to breathe more deeply, discover new strength and flexibility while honoring your limits, strengthen your concentration/focus, and relax your nervous system.

All ages and flexibility levels can benefit from this class, which is taught in a non-competitive environment. Options are offered to stay safely within your pain-free range of motion. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

Classes are not in a series, so you are welcome to drop in any week.

Location:VES Gym, Room 110
Time:

45 minutes, from 4:10 to 4:55 pm

Mary plans to arrive at the gym at 4:00, and you are welcome to set up your mat early so that we can start promptly at 4:10 pm.

Dates:Meets once per week on Monday or Tuesday (see Dates below)
Cost:

Pay what you can, $5 suggested contribution

If yoga doesn’t fit into your budget, join us for for free

How to Sign-Up:

Print and sign this waiver/voluntary health form and bring it to your first class.

No weekly registration needed – come whenever you can

What to Wear:

Comfortable clothes that allow freedom of movement.

Consider dressing in layers because the gym is cool when the AC is on, and hot when the heat is on

What to Bring:

Note: Mary has a handful of props available to borrow

Optional Props:

Bring anything that will support your practice including:

  • 2 or more yoga blocks
  • Blanket or beach towel
  • Cushion for sitting on floor (note: folding chairs are available)
  • Flat pillow for lying on back
  • Eye pillow for final relaxation

Dates for Fall 2023

Classes will be held Mondays, except when there is a Monday holiday or and faculty meetings. During those weeks, yoga will meet on Tuesday.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How long is each yoga cla=ss?

45 minutes, this includes warm-ups, breathing, postures, and final relaxation.

2. Can I do this class in a chair?

Yes! Please let Mary know that you would like to participate in a chair and she will offer chair options throughout the entire class.

3. Can I come early or leave late?

Yes! If you are late, please join us when you can.

If you have to leave early, no problem – please pack up any time before we transition to final relaxation. That happens when there is about 10 minutes of class left, so you would want to leave by 4:45 pm.

4. I’ve never done yoga before, should I buy a yoga mat and other props?

Not necessarily. Mary has a handful of extra yoga mats and props to lend out (first-come, first-served). Yoga mats and props range in quality and price, and Mary can give suggestions when you are ready.

5. Can we add another yoga class to the week, maybe in the morning ?

Yes, if there is enough interest. Let Mary know what time and which day would work for you.
